Spooky Kitty No-Stitch Embroidery Hoop

I have no idea why, but I find black cats a little spooky.

Don’t we all?  

Especially this time of year, just days from Halloween.  

I couple of days ago I shared this Scribble Stitch Kitty as part of my Halloween Embroidery Hoop Collection, but that kitty just didn’t capture the spooky essence of a black cat.  

And so, I tried again, and I think it looks a little spookier, if not evil!  

I’m happy with the spooky factor in this project, but what makes me even happier is that this is a no-stitch project (whoot!)

It is easy easy easy, especially when you use the template I provided!

Okay, I am excited to share my own project with you. But before we get there, there is a little more about cats, particularly black cats.

Check out the pictures below, of my darling son on a walk to get milk with my Godmother.

As you can clearly see, they ran into a black cat (kitten) on their adventures.  

Cute, right…or creepy?  

I can’t help but think a little creepy.  

Am I the only one? Seriously, what are your thoughts here?

While we reflect on that, let’s get down to business and make a simple spooky kitty embroidery hoop art.

How to Create a Spooky No-Stitch Embroidery Hoop:

The first thing that you need to do is sketch your basic design.  

Here’s mine.  

I selected my embroidery hoop and then drew a circle that was one inch smaller than the radius of the embroidery hoop.  

I wanted the cat to not be fully contained by the circle.

But, if you’re not in the mood to sketch, feel free to use my PATTERN.  

I just traced it with a magic marker and scanned it before using it myself.

It’s a little rough, but it should work.

Next, tape the pattern to black fabric that is backed with a heat bond.  

Cut in a way that preserves the outline of the cat.

This can be confusing, so it is important to refer to the images here while you cut.

Once you are done cutting, simply iron it down, onto a pattern’s piece of fabric.  

I recommend ironing down one piece at a time to make sure that they are correctly placed.

Simple enough, right?
