I am excited to share today’s post with you because it combines 2 of my favorite things: Nativities and my crafty niece Mary. The project I’m sharing today, a Felt and Popsicle Stick Nativity Set, was entirely her creation, and I really love how it turned out.
As I have mentioned before, my niece Mary is a craft-a-holic, just like me.
Every time I am in town she makes sure the two of us find time to craft, and I always love her creations, but this one might be one of my favorites.
Mary has a very sweet way of drawing people and also has a wonderful way of capturing simple beauty.
For this project, we decided to create a nativity set that she could use to act out the events of Jesus’s birth.
And, trust me, she has already put them to good use.
For this project, all we used as supplies were jumbo Popsicle sticks, Wool Felt, Markers, and Hot Glue
As a first step, Mary traced the Popsicle Sticks and drew out each figure.
Above you can see the plans that she made for Mary, the Angel, and a King with the finished figure next to it.
After the planning was complete we cut out the felt.
We used very basic shapes.
With the felt cut I hot glued down the pieces of felt to the popsicle sticks and finally Mary added faces with markers.
I personally think they turned out really cute.
Don’ you agree?

One of my favorite figures is the baby Jesus.
For all of the other figures, we used full sticks, but for baby Jesus, we used a half stick.
We gave him a halo and a crown, and a simple heart, representing the sacred heart.

And finally, here is a look at the Holy Family.
Mary also has a heart, representing the immaculate heart.
And Joseph is holding a lily, as he is often represented, as the protector of purity.
Thanks for stopping by and letting me share this felt and popsicle stick nativity set with you.
I am sort of obsessed with nativity sets…ask my husband!
This one might be one of my favorites, though. Nothing beats the simple creative vision of a child!
Thanks for being here,

these are super cute nancy
I can’t even tell you how much I love this!!
xoxoxo
Thank you, friend!
Jesus tells us over and over to become like children… Mary gives us a vision of the simple beauty of this mystery of LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT – our salvation,is such a huge mystery, that God would come into the world as a helpless infant! Mary’s nativity is a delight – small and precious! Jesus, we thank you for saving us through a new LIFE brought into the world through the “yes” of Mary! Jesus, we trust in YOU. Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
