Today’s podcast features the charm and brilliance of my good friend (both and and off life) Nell from www.wholeparentingfamily.com. And the topic under discussion: The importance of friendships as a mom.
Over the last couple weeks it started to become clear to me that I needed to address the issue of friendship. In my emails with moms through this blog I often hear from women that feel very alone. Many have moved away from family, others have become moms before their friends, and still others are just struggling to understand who they are now that they are moms.
Overall I felt again and again this profound loneliness.
And I also have known loneliness as a mom.
Our husbands can go a long way in helping us through the baby/toddler years, but, in a very real way, women need women. Especially during our first years as a mom, we need to connect with other moms because only they will REALLY understand what we are experiencing and be able to support us in the way we need.
But, where do we find these friends? How do we connect? How do we get past the awkward ‘are we just hanging out because our kids like each other’ phase?
Well, I struggle with this questions as well. So, I brought on an expert.
Nell is not only an outstanding friend, she is also a great people connector. Just having her in my life has made me a better friend and taught me how to be brave and really care about the people in my life.
So, if you are struggling to find those meaningful female friendships, have a listen. And, if you are totally set and have some great friends already, I challenge you to see the lonely moms in your community and find a way to minister to them. Because we have all experienced loneliness as a mom.
Finally, at the end of the podcast we mention the Edel Gathering, hosted by Jennifer Fulwiler and Hallie Lord in Austin this August 4-5. Will you be there? Can we hang out? If so, let me know! I am counting down the days!
Thanks, as always, for being here,
