What is the deal with Frozen?
I keep waiting and waiting for my kids to get sick of it. And waiting.
And it seems that with every passing day they just love it more. Are your kids the same?
And so, I’ve surrendered and decided to actually put some crafting energy toward this Frozen craze.
To that end, I created this Felt Frozen Princess Crown for my sweet little Bernadette. I included a free template for you, in the event you have a little Princess Elsa at home in need of a crown.
This is a very simple project that you can easily accomplish in a half-hour.
Our crown has already gotten tons of use–and likely will continue to be used for a long time to come, since there seems to be no end in sight for this Frozen craze.
But, isn’t she super cute in it?
This princess crown is very simple to make.
I made you a free template, it requires just a few inexpensive supplies and with the ribbon tie in the back, you don’t have to worry about what hairdo the princess is sporting that day.
So many problems solved, right?

Below is a picture of the princess crown template.
As a first step, print out the template on ordinary computer paper.
Once you have your template printed, it is time to cut your felt.
Some of the pieces included on the template for this crown are detailed and small.
For this reason, it is important to use clear tape rather than straight pins to hold your pattern in place while you cut.
Simply cut a piece of felt roughly the size you’ll need, just a little larger.
Then, tape the pattern directly to the felt and cut around it.
Use this process of cutting to cut out 2 crown shapes in aqua, 1 snowflake in white, 1 center gem, and 4 diamond gems in pink.
Next up, time to stitch (just a little here, don’t worry!).
Basically, we are just going to stitch on the front details of this crown.
If you’d like to glue these on, that’s fine.
Use a hot glue gun.
But I have learned that while making things for my kids they are much more apt to pull it apart and destroy it if it is glued, than if it is stitched.
But, maybe your kids are less destructive than mine.
If you decide to stitch, then attach the snowflake to the center with some long stitches.
Stitch a gem onto each of the other points with longer stitches that form a diamond shape.
And, finally, use a running stitch to attach the bottom trim.
Almost done!
As a final step, grab the ribbon and cut 2 strips at a generous length–around 2 or 3 feet.
Then, using the fabric glue, glue both strips to either side of the back front side of the crown.
Apply more glue all over, making sure to get up into the points, and place the back of the crown on top.
Press firmly.
Allow to dry fully–and then get ready to sing “Let it Go!” at the absolute top of your lungs!
And then, give yourself a pat on the back. You just made a little girl’s day. Well done.
Here is my little girly happily wearing her new princess crown. She even refuses to take it off for bedtime.
Happy Crafting (and role-playing scenes from Frozen)!
